Reduction of employees of PT XL Axiata Tbk is considered as normal. Competition of the increasingly stringent telecommunication industry is considered to encourage companies to make efficiency.
Telecommunications observer Heru Sutadi noted that industry conditions are difficult. Although the company's financial statements are positive, it does not mean they are out of economic problems.
The downsizing of XL employees could also be caused by the overweight corporate structure, as a result of XL's decision to acquire Axis in 2014. The management of PT XL Axiata Tbk terminated the working relationship of its 200 employees through an early retirement offer as a form of business transformation to keep pace with technological change.

Core Indonesia Research Director Mohammad Faisal estimates that the telecom sector prospect in 2017 is very bright, as well as being one of the highest growth sectors in Indonesia. "Nevertheless, in line with the transformation of the telecommunications industry, which is increasingly moving towards data services, the sector will slow down marginally slowly," Faisal said at the CORE Economic Outlook 2017 seminar in Jakarta, Wednesday (23/11).
Next year, Indonesia's telecommunication sector will begin to enter the era of single digit growth in the range of 8-10%, after more than a decade of double-digit growth. Since breaking above 30% growth rate in 2008, the growth trend of this sector has continued to weaken and for the past five years has been stagnant at around 10%.
