The Ministry of Industry continues to develop the pulp and paper industry to make it more productive and innovative so that it can be competitive both domestically and globally. With the availability of domestic raw materials, the pulp and paper industry has great business potential to make a significant contribution to the national economy.
"Currently, the installed capacity of the national pulp industry is 12.13 million tons per year. Putting Indonesia in the eighth world ranking; meanwhile, the paper industry with an installed capacity of 18.26 million tons per year positions Indonesia in sixth place in the world," said Director General of Agro Industry at the Ministry of Industry, Putu Juli Ardika in Jakarta, Friday (25/11).

Pulp and paper production grew by 6 percent during the first semester of 2021. The Indonesian Pulp and Paper Association (APKI) said the growth was driven by increased absorption in the country. This is mainly due to the high use of packaging and tissue paper. "In general, the national pulp and paper industry in 2021 will grow by 6 percent. This is due to an increase in domestic absorption," said APKI Secretary General Liana Bratasida to Bisnis, Thursday (7/10/2021). Last year, national paper production was estimated to only reach 13.33 million tons, a decline of 1.98 percent compared to the 2019 realization of 13.6 million tons.
