One of the commodities are of leather craftsmen in Garut Regency is the production of apparel of leather and cowhide jacket (rather hard) and sheep (bending), which in certain circles, especially in the fashion business environment known as "Garut Leather Jacket".

Supporting factors the establishment of leather jacket of industry which is the availability of raw materials. Sources of raw materials are relatively abundant in Garut regency with its strategic location, close even integrated in a small industrial center tanneries neighborhood.

Garut Leather Jacket also has penetrated into the international market. The latest data, Garut leather jackets are exported to Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Australia with a volume reached 9488 pieces valued at $ 448,464. This shows considerable increase in exports where export volume improved earlier reached 5100 pieces worth U.S. $ 258,651.

Garut’s cow and lamb hide (leather) products, known as the ‘Garut Leather Jacket’, have successfully penetrated the international market of Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan and Japan. The leather jacket industry is thriving due to the ample support in basic materials and also its relatively strategic location. Approximately 417 formal and non-formal business units are operating in the area. The units absorb 3,000 workers. Annually, the industry produces 50,000 pieces of smooth cuts and 200,000 pieces of broken cuts.
