Australia is one of countries with economic power that has resilience to the crisis as well as the country with high economic growth in the world. One industry that is growing in the country is the leather industry. However, the domestic leather industry suffered a setback over the last five years, due to declining demand from tannery plant; leather product factory for bags, suitcases, and so forth; as well as downstream industries, such as clothing and footwear.

The period of 2013-2014, imports of footwear made from leather by Australia covers 78.1% of the total footwear industry in the country. That number increased compared to the 2008-2009 period, reaching only 75.1%. The data shows the trend of imports of leather products Australia as a whole increased by approximately 10.5% during the 2009-2013 period. Indonesia's own ranks 9th as exporters of leather-based products, such as handbags, luggage and the like, to Australia, however, the average growth of products imported from Indonesia over the past five years was the highest at 22.1%. This indicates RI leather products have very bright prospects in the Australian market.
