Sugarcane Plantation Productivity Continues to Decline:: https://news.majalahhortus.com/produktivitas-perkebunan-tebu-terus-menurun/28 September 2021
The Indonesian Sugar Cane Farmers Association (APTRI) predicts that the downward trend in domestic sugarcane productivity will occur again this year. There are a number of problems that occur in domestic sugar production, such as crop failure to a decrease in productivity. This was conveyed by the General Chairperson of APTRI Soemitro Samadikoen during a webinar entitled Problems, Institutions and Cooperation between Farmers and Sugar Mills, which was recently held by PT Research Perkebunan Nusantara and Universitas Brawijaya.
According to him, there are various problems in the field. Ranging from higher farmer costs to lower sugarcane productivity. In addition, crop failures in several areas also contributed to the decline in production.
One of the breakthroughs that must be done immediately is to invest in research and development of sugar factories. This includes improving the seed and nursery system, unloading ratoons, as well as more systematic counseling for sugarcane farmers. Another thing that is not less important, there must be incentives for sugarcane farmers.
