Commercial banks in China are divided into five main groups - state-owned commercial banks, which includes the biggest four banks in China; joint-stock commercial banks with stock, private and foreign stock share operating at the national level; city commercial banks operating at the city level; foreign and joint venture (JV) banks; and others, including urban and rural credit cooperatives, rural commercial banks, and urban cooperative banks. All requirements and regulations for commercial banks are included in "The Law of the People's Republic of China on Commercial Banks". The minimum registered capital varies from 100 million Renminbi (RMB) ($12.5 million) for city commercial banks and foreign banks, to 1 billion RMB ($125 million) for commercial banks at the national level.
