Computer Wholesalingin Australia
Australia Market Research and Industry Report
8 November 2007
Industry Code : F4613
This class consists mainly of units engaged in wholesaling computers and computer peripheral equipment. The major Australian markets for computer equipment are dominated by equipment manufactured overseas (and, to a lesser extent, in Australia) by transnational conglomerates. Locally-incorporated subsidiaries of these conglomerates (Vendors) provide after-sales support, and often sell directly to the largest corporate and government customers. These Vendors usually appoint Dealers to sell products in specified territories. Dell is an exception, in that it takes all orders through a direct sales force or via the Internet. The Dealers, in turn, sell directly to large customers (not serviced by the Vendors), and also sell to Resellers, which tend to serve clientele with smaller requirements. Many Resellers also have retail outlets. Sales margins tend to fall from original supplier to Dealer to Reseller.
