Cement Plant More Expansive : October 2015

Cement manufacturers continue to expand in anticipation of the growing domestic demand, driven by infrastructure and property sectors.

Almost all the cement companies, both state-owned enterprises like any private, increase production capacity in recent years in order to pursue a supply shortage of cement in the domestic market.

Cement Industry Association (ASI) projecting domestic cement consumed con reach 54 million tons this year, growing at least 12% compared with last year's 48 million tons.

As of October this year, domestic cement consumption grew beyond the projection of 14.5% to 44.6 million tons, compared with the same period last year of 38.9 million tons.
Competition Increasingly Competitive, Semen Indonesia Increases Production Capacity: June 2017

Cement industry competition is increasingly competitive. Cement producers from overseas enliven the competition to the bottom level. Facing the competition, PT Semen Indonesia (SI) Tbk has chosen to focus on increasing production capacity. Corporate Secretary of Semen Indonesia, Agung Wiharto said, the movement of domestic cement market is still excess capacity level due to weakening demand of cement in the country.

However, in the next few years, the demand for cement will continue to increase along with the growth of government infrastructure projects. Currently, the total capacity of the country's cement industry is 106.3 million tons per year. While Semen Indonesia Group has a total capacity of 35.5 million tons and is still the largest cement producer in the country.

With the total capacity of the country's cement industry reaching 100 million tons, SOEs in this case Semen Indonesia Group only dominated about 36% of the market. The rest is dominated by foreign and private players who in recent years continue to emerge.
