Chairman of the Indonesian Cement Association (ASI) explained, the growth of cement industry during the January-March 2011 reached 6.9 percent compared to same period in 2010.

Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) noted growth in cement sector and non-metallic minerals in Quarter I/2011 reached 4.26 percent compared to same period 2010, which grew to 8.03 percent.

Meanwhile, the industrial sector, which experienced negative growth throughout thequarter I/2011 are wood products and forest products, fertilizer, chemicals and rubber products. The industrial wood products sector and forest products sector and fertilizer industry experienced negative growth (0.40 percent). While the industrial sector, fertilizer, chemicals and rubber goods of negative growth (0.07 percent).

Director General of Industrial Zoning Kemenperin explains, negative growth was more due to the decline in market demand.

In 2010, PT. Holcim Indonesia Tbk. plans to build a new cement factory in Tuban, East Java. The factory will have a production capacity of 1.7 million tons annually. It is estimated that investment needed is valued at Rp.6 trillion. The cement factory will be located on a 1,050-hectare area, previously owned by PT. Dwima Agung (currently bankrupt). Per 2009, PT. Holcim Indonesia has a production capacity of 8.3 million tons.
