President Jokowi said the new fertilizer plant is very important for food security in Indonesia. It was given the food sector will be highly strategic sector in the future, and the existence of a fertilizer plant has a very important role in achieving food self-sufficiency and independence.

To that end, he welcomed the presence of 5 Pupuk Kaltim factory plant with a capacity of 825,000 tons of ammonia and 1.1 million tons of urea and Phosphoric Acid Revamping project is located in Gresik, East Java, with a capacity of 200,000 tons of phosphoric acid and 600,000 tons of sulfuric acid were also built. Urea fertilizer needs and phosphate fertilizers last year amounted to 6.7 tons and 400 thousand tons, and in the future, fertilizer demand will continue to increase in line with the expansion or extension of food land.

PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) is ready to start a fertilizer factory construction project in Fakfak Regency, West Papua at the end of November. This factory will be the first in Eastern Indonesia and will supply fertilizer needs for agricultural areas in Papua.

The Main Director of Pupuk Indonesia, Rahmad Pribadi said that President Jokowi will lay the first stone on November 24, 2023 as a sign of the start of the project. He is optimistic that the existence of the factory will help Indonesia achieve food self-sufficiency.
