The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) revealed that weather factors in the mining area are still an obstacle in achieving the coal production target in 2021 which is set at 625 million tons. Director of Mineral and Coal Program Development at the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Sunindyo Suryo Herdadi said that weather problems had been experienced in a number of mining areas from mid-2021 to the end of this year. This condition is said to affect the realization of coal commodity production. The La Nina phenomenon is also accused of causing high-intensity rain, thus disrupting operations in the mining area.

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources noted that domestic coal production has only reached 560 million tons until December 10, 2021. This amount is around 89.6 percent of the target of 625 million tons. Then, the realization of domestic coal demand has reached 121.3 million tons, or 88.2 percent of the target of 137.5 million tons. Even so, this figure is expected to continue to increase by the end of the year.
