Police in Surabaya will tighten inspection of the belongings of a passenger ship docked in the harbor, after the arrest of the suspect smuggling yellow-crested cockatoo.

Head of the Police Public Relations Section of the Port of Tanjung Perak, Surabaya, Lily Djafar said stringent checks particularly for the belongings of the passengers of Maluku, Sulawesi and Papua, which is the natural habitat of rare birds. Government Regulation No. 7 of 1999 stipulates that the yellow-crested cockatoos as one of the protected animals. During the one and a half months of the last three cases of smuggling of rare animals Police arrested Tanjung Perak Surabaya, including Bali starlings.

Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries through Fish Quarantine Center, Quality Control, and Fishery Product Security (BKIPM) Jakarta I managed to thwart the delivery of 1,171 arowana fish from Riau to Jakarta.

Thousands of golden arowana fish (Schleropagus formosus) and Brazilian arowana silver (Osteoglossum bicirchosum) worth Rp.1.9 billion were thwarted for not meeting the requirements. Head of Fish Quarantine Agency, Quality Control, and Fishery Products Security (BKIPM) Rina said the security of fish delivery is done because there is a violation of the procedure. "Violate the procedure of fish delivery," he said in a release received by Tempo on Tuesday, April 19, 2016.
