The government has appointed five State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) for the procurement of seeds and fertilizer subsidies in 2015. The appointment was made to accelerate the food self-sufficiency targets. One of the state designated PT Sang Hyang Seri (SHS). But as soon as a state subsidy seed dealer, SHS claimed not to be able to meet the needs of the national seed.

Director of SHS Istochri Utomo admit, the company is ready not ready to receive the designation as a national distributor of food seeds. For seed production capacity of the plant is not currently maximum SHS. Currently SHS has 22 factories among others scattered in West Java, South Sulawesi, Lampung and North Sumatra. The number is not sufficient to meet the needs of the national seed as much as 350,000 tons of seed. SHS is only able to meet the 120,000 tonnes of seed of the national total seed requirement.

PT Sang Hyang Seri (SHS) will increase the production of seeds in 2017. One of the measures taken is to increase the area of seed in collaboration with farmer groups in some areas, one in southern Sulawesi.

This year, SHS targets to produce seeds of 73,880.27 tonnes and forecasts that have been achieved to date amounted to 47,775.96 tons.

For the year 2017, SHS put a more realistic target with seed production was lower than in 2016, amounting to 72,227.69 tons. The production target is 2.23 per cent lower than the target of 2016.
