The Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing division forms part of the 17 ANZSIC divisions that comprise the economy (i.e. Division A). Operators in this division are involved in the cultivation and production of a range of livestock, dairy, horticulture and marine goods. These goods may be divided into 13 categories being horticulture and fruit, grain, sheep, beef cattle farming, dairy cattle farming, poultry farming, other livestock, other crops, agricultural services, hunting and trapping, forestry and logging, marine fishing and aquaculture. These goods are predominantly purchased by manufacturers for further processing or exported into the international market. It is important to note that businesses that operate primarily as manufacturers are excluded from this division. These operators are classified under Manufacturing (Division C). ANZSIC definition: This Division includes all units mainly engaged in 'Agriculture, Forestry and Fishing'. The term agriculture is used here in the broad sense to include the breeding, keeping or cultivation of all kinds of animal or vegetable life except forest trees and marine life. Forestry includes afforestation, harvesting and gathering of forest products. Fishing includes the catching, gathering, breeding and cultivation of marine life from ocean, coastal or inland waters. Hunting includes the catching or taking of all types of animal wildlife on land.
