The manufacture of flat glass in the first semester of 2011 is predicted to experience unremarkable growth. The Chairman of the Association of Safety Glass Sheets of Indonesia said that while the glass sheet industry did not experience significant growth in the first semester, this does not mean a negative performance.

The current capacity of the flat glass industry nationwide is 1.3 million tones. The production capacity including those owned by PT Asahimas Flat Glass Tbk (AMFG), Tbk, PT. Mulia Industrindo (MLIA) through its subsidiary PT. Mulia Glass and PT. Tossa Sakti. National flat glass segment sales were 50% for local market and 50% for export markets. The export performance of the flat glass industry is also highly vulnerable to the issue of bank interest rates.

Based on data from the association the national flat glass industry, sales in 2010 reached Rp.4 trillion with a volume of 583 thousand tons, or a grow 6% compared to 2009 which totaled 550,000 tons. This increase was driven by the increasing sales from the automotive industry.
