Manufacturing Industrial Production Grows 5.15 Percent:, 3 May 2011

Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded during the first quarter of 2011 production of large and medium manufacturing industries in Indonesia increased 5.15 percent over the same time last year.

During that period, the decline in production only occurred in the rubber industry and rubber and plastics products (2.89 percent), industrial wood and articles of wood (1.44 percent), publishing, printing and reproduction of recorded media (0.9 percent), as well as radio, television and communication equipment (0.11 percent).

When compared with the fourth quarter of 2010, the production of large and medium manufacturing industries during the first quarter of 2011 was recorded fell 2.18 percent.
Plastic Industry Predicted to Grow 7 to 8 Percent Annually:, 22 May 2010

The plastic industry is predicted to annually grow in line with the growth of chemical and food industries. In the coming year, the plastic industry is expected to grow by 7 to 8 percent annually. Presently, there are six BOPP film plastic manufacturers, with production capacity of 186,000 tons per year. There are five manufacturers of Biaxially Oriented Polyester (BOPET), with production capacity of 89,000 tons annually. The two types of packaging plastic (BOPP and BOPET) are used for food and beverage, pharmaceutical, cigarette, detergent, shampoo, garment and cosmetics industry. BOPET is also used for electronic product packaging. The potential of the industry remains a promising one especially since plastic is still a sector categorized as a sensitive industry protected within the frame of ASEAN-China free trade. Hence, it continues to receive 20 percent customs protection until 2018.
