Fragrant Aroma of the Essential Oil Industry: https://indonesia.go.id/kategori/editorial/7767/harum-aroma-industri-minyak-atsiri?lang=1/20 November 2023

The Ministry of Industry is encouraging the downstream essential oil program. In 2022, Indonesia's export performance of essential oil products will reach USD172.9 million. The five main destination countries are the United States, India, France, China and Spain.

Apart from being rich in petroleum, Indonesia also has wealth that has not been widely processed, namely essential oils. This is one of the rich agro resources that has high economic value. This essential oil is needed in various advanced industries, such as as a raw material for the perfume, cosmetics, pharmaceutical and essence industries.

The Ministry of Industry continues to encourage the development of the essential oil downstream industry sector (IHMA) so that it can be more competitive. Moreover, Indonesia has the potential for the availability of diverse raw materials, even being home to around 40 types of essential plants from the 99 types of essential plants in the world. This is a potential for increasing economic value added through the domestic processing industry.

Essential oils have been used as industrial raw materials for essences, flavors and fragrances. The total production of Indonesia's main essential oils will reach 8,500 tons in 2020. Through educational programs regarding the potential for cultivation of raw materials and business opportunities in the IHMA sector, Indonesia will be able to grow more reliable producers of refined essential oils on the global stage. Then, a massive socialization or campaign is needed so that processed essential oil products can become a lifestyle trend in the community, such as processed coffee products.
