The Ministry of Forests Encourage Wood Panel Industry: July 2011

Growth wood panel industry will be encouraged. By maximizing the raw materials Industrial Plantation Forest (HTI) and the Forest Plantation (HTR) to catch the national wood panel industry.

The growth of the wood panel industry in Indonesia is still low and inferior to China. China's plywood industry in 2010 reached 71.4 million cubic meters. Indonesia plywood production of 11.8 million cubic meters. Indo

nesia panel industry is being developed now based forest plantations on degraded or marginal lands. With the expansion of plantations of the people up to 86 units this year, investments increased Rp.5, 63 trillion, with the absorption of 66,482 person workforce.
Export of Wood Panels Dropped Due to Government Policy:, 21July 2008

Indonesia’s wood panel exports in January to May 2008 reached 1.2 million cubic metres, and were valued at US$ 534 million. During the same period in 2007, the number was significantly higher. The decline is said to be an effect of Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Decree No. 20/M-DAG/PER/5/2008, regarding Forestry Industry Product Export. The decree stated that woods with width of 4,000 square meters are prohibited for export.
