Government to Develop Langkat's Silica Sand:, 17 November 2008

It is stated in the 2005-2025 National Energy Management's blueprint that the contribution of solar power will be 0.4 percent of the total 5 percent of the new and renewable energy. For that reason, the government plans to boost solar power production by developing the potential of silica sand in North Sumatra. Silica sand is the basic material in making plates of solar panel module. Until now, Indonesia still imports solar panel from Germany.
Chinese Company Sets Eye on Iron Sand in Wawonii:, 1 June 2007

Chinese company PT. Kumning Gold Fortune stated its interest to process iron sand from Wawonii District (Konawe Regency), Southeast Sulawesi. The company is presently appraising the area, involving approximately 50 people. Exploration activities will done later that year.
