Potential geothermal or geothermal energy market in the country is still big to be developed. In the latest written notes of Industrial Engineering as delivered by President Director Jobi Triananda Hasjim, yesterday, the project of Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) is one manifestation of this potential.

Warta Kompas.com on Wednesday (28/12/2016) shows that in Indonesia today there are many new and renewable energy sources that are boosted its use as an alternative to fossil energy sources. The fossil energy sources themselves are estimated to be depleted within the next 12-15 years.

Fossil energy sources in Indonesia are estimated to be exhausted because currently the national oil consumption rate has reached 1.6 million barrels per day (bpd). The oil production is only 600,000 bph-800,000 bpd.

Development of Geothermal Power Plant (PLTP) becomes the focus of the Government. Therefore, the government provides endowment funding for infrastructure of geothermal sector or geothermal fund about Rp.3,7 trillion.

Director of Geothermal Directorate General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Yunus Saefulhak said the government appointed PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (SMI) to manage it. Yunus hopes that this support will encourage the development of the geothermal sector as one of the government's priority programs, in order to supply environmentally friendly electricity and achieve new renewable energy mix target of 23% by 2025.
