National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) state land and forest fires are still widespread in some areas in Indonesia.

According to the Head of Data Information and Public Relations BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, this time there were 2,742 fire hotspots in Indonesia. Among them is Papua as much as 744 fires, in South Sumatra 703 fires and Central Kalimantan 462 fires, in West Kalimantan 290 hotspots and East Kalimantan 153 hotspots. The air quality in most areas in Riau, Jambi, West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan is at a dangerous level. The condition is very alarming because people in the region exposed to fumes that are harmful to health, so people should always wear masks. Efforts continue to be made blackout by land or air.

The Geospatial Information Agency (Badan Informasi Geospatial or BIG) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Lambung Mangkurat University (LMU), as part of the Geospatial Information Agency's ongoing efforts to increase the quality and quantity of human resources specialising in Geospatial Information Systems and Technology in South Kalimantan.

The MOU aims to promote the joint collaboration and sharing of geospatial data and information, promotion of R&D activities in the field of geospatial information, implementation of technical capacity building workshops to improve the competence of human resources, the development of a University Network Node, and the creation of a Spatial Data Infrastructure Development Centre. Furthermore, the MOU also seeks to address shortages in geospatial technical skills. In the long run, the government hopes to increase the domestic supply it needs to achieve a thriving GIS industry and a spatially-enabled Indonesia.
