Rejuvenate Cloves, Nurturing Hope: May 2011

The tree of trees numbered 9 (P9). That is, the parent tree number 9 of 29 stem clove tree, which has obtained a certificate of clove stem since 2008 from a local department of agriculture and plantations. Stem clove tree is 33 years old. Parent tree nurseries have been established as a source of cloves. The terms set for the mother of clove tree should be good quality, healthy tree, the average age above 33 to 50 years.

The normal price Rp.40,000 per kilogram, clove farmers have received at least Rp.40 million once harvested, farmers who sell fresh cloves have been able to profit because the price of wet cloves is Rp.12,500 /kg.

From about 70,000 clove trees in the sub district of Jatiyoso, Jatipuro, Jumapolo, and Jumantoro, about 40 percent of is time rejuvenated; that means, should be available a minimum of 28,000 seed-quality clove. There are now 15 000 seedlings available. At age 3-5 months and the new seedlings will be ready to be distributed to farmers free of charge from early September.
