Indonesian clove producers are preparing to expand their exports to the Middle East region, after having been dependent on the European market. Chairman of the Indonesian Spice Board Gamal Nasir said the potential for clove demand from the Middle East market is quite high. As Indonesia's clove production continues to increase, he is optimistic that market expansion to the Middle East can be carried out next year.

Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) the export value during January-November 2018 penetrated US $ 76.96 million or surged 211% year on year (yoy) from the same period last year which reached US $ 24.71 million.

Vice President (Wapres) Ma'ruf Amin accompanied by Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo released the export of 25 plantation commodities and spices from North Sumatra Province to 34 countries with a value of Rp 207.93 billion.

The vice president said it was time for the development of plantation and spice commodities to be developed through increasing productivity, production, developing the processing industry and competitiveness. Not only that, in the future Indonesia must also export materials that have been processed so as to increase the value of the product.
