Bakrie Rubber Production Up 23 Percent Bisnis Indonesia, page T4, 2006-09-07
In the first semester of this year, the production of rubber from PT Bakrie Sumatera Plantations (Tbk) increased 23 percent, up to 10,740 tons compared to the same period of time last year amounting to 8,770 tons. This increase was as a result of the additional plantation area the company has taken over amounting to around 1,600 hectares in Air Muring at the end of last year. Productivity of the land increased 9 percent, from 1,220 tons per ha to 1,330 tons per ha. This has increased the profit of the company from approximately Rp.57.6 billion to Rp101.2 billion, around 58 percent from June 2005’s Rp.63.9 billion.
In other news, the sales of BSP crude palm oil (CPO), up to June 2006, has reached 56,200 tons, a 9 percent increase compared to last June’s 51,700 tons. Sales in June increased almost 24 percent compared to the previous month, reaching its highest price in the last 9 months as much as 11,700 tons. The sale of palm kernel was recorded as the second highest selling product in the last six months, reaching up to 2,000 tons.
BSP plans to sell bonds worth US$ 120 million this year to finance the construction of a biodiesel factory and to settle debts. The company’s rubber plantation adds up to a total of 150,000 hectares in Sumatra and Kalimantan. Other than that, the company has a palm processing factory with a production capacity of 120 tons per hour and a rubber processing factory with a capacity of 68,000 tons.
