PT Perkebunan Nusantara XI’s locally manufactured sugar for the first period of 2006, which was offered using auction mechanism, was sold for the highest price of Rp 5,545 per kilograms. The total amount sold was 13,715 tons (4,965 owned by farmers and 8,750 owned by the company). The selling price was higher than government-regulated price of Rp 4,800 per kilograms. In addition, improving conditional of local sugar pricing was caused by the stable world price for sugar shipping in the London Future Exchange (US$ 445 per metric ton FOB or approximately US$ 500 per metric ton CIF).
PTPN XI’s sugar production for 2006 is projected increase by no less than 416,300 tons than 2005’s production. The company contributes 2.24 million tons, or 18 percent, of total national sugar production.
