ABN Amro sets a target of 200,000 credit card holders for the next one year. Since it was launched on 1 June 2005, ABN Amro has acquired 1,000 Van Gogh Preferred Banking (VGPB) credit card holders and 9,000 other customers (22% platinum card, 30% gold card and 48% silver card). The Indonesian market is considered promising due to the fact that 24 million out of Indonesia’s 220 million population earn over than Rp 15 million per year. The number of credit cards issued by 21 banks has only reached 4.5 million people. Hence, there are still a couple million people eligible for credit card ownership. Although ABN Amro will have to compete heavily with other credit card issuers, it is optimistic that the target will be achieved. Currently, growth of credit card publishing in Indonesia has reached 20 to 30 percent annually. However, transaction level by credit card holders is only 1.3 percent per year from the total Rp 30 trillion spent by Indonesian.
