LG to develop Indonesia as its AC production base

LG is considering Indonesia to be its base for AC production. Currently, its market share in Indonesia's market is 18% and expected rising to 20% in 2005 which is amount of 150,000 units. Both of its type, residential AC and commercial AC, are sold 130,000 units in 2004 from wholesale of 550,000 units. Around 80,000 units were imported from Korea and Thailand. This year, LG will promote its post-sales quality and technology improvement to increase its sales in Indonesia.

LG Electronics Indonesia (LGEI) plans to increase its production capacity by 80 percent for refrigerators from 200,000 units to 360,000 units in 2004. This target is set to fulfil foreign demand for the product. LGEIN will also increase domestic production capacity to anticipate increasing demands during the high seasons (fasting month and Lebaran Islamic holiday). LGEIN also plans to try to implement different strategies in increasing production volume and reach target sales due to stable value of Rupiah to US Dollars. LGEIN will increase export transactions while the value of Rupiah is considerably low. Refrigerators manufactured by LGEIN will also be marketed Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.
