Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartanto encourage independence of the textile industry in the country by strengthening the depth of the industrial structure. Will be viewed the textile industry from upstream to downstream. The textile industry there is a cotton-based, rayon and polyester. Which could be encouraged independence is based rayon and polyester, cotton that remains to be imported.

According to Airlangga, there are several obstacles to realize the independence of the textile industry in the country, one of which is the price of gas. In addition, the invasion of imported products from several countries also become a challenge for the domestic textile industry. After reviewing the overall condition of the textile industry, the Ministry of Industry will issue some policies so that these challenges can be resolved.

The Ministry of Industry said that the national textile and textile industry (TPT) industry shows a positive performance in both domestic and export markets. In the first half of 2017, the growth rate of the export-oriented labor-intensive sector increased by 1.92% compared to the same period in the previous year which decreased by 0.13%. Minister of Industry of Airlangga Hartarto said that until July 2017, textile exports also rose 2.71% to US $ 7.12 billion.

The Ministry of Industry estimates that by the end of this year, textile exports will reach US $ 12.09 billion and in 2019 will rise to US $ 15 billion. Increased exports and rising domestic markets, marked by increased utilization of production from the domestic industry.

To improve competitiveness and productivity in this strategic sector, the government is working to facilitate logistical access and strengthen local branding.
