China Lobbies Indonesia to Become a Salt Supplier:https://www.republika.co.id/berita/ekonomi/makro/17/11/16/ozhkhu-cina-lobi-indonesia-untuk-jadi-pemasok-garam/16 November 2017
China continues to negotiate salt with Indonesia in order to become a joint supplier of Australia to meet national needs. This was conveyed by Marketing Supervisor of Zigong 9D Salt Industry Group Co. Ltd., Xiao Yang. According to him, it has long been negotiating on the price and volume of salt with the Indonesian side, but until now there has been no meeting point about the price.

Based on data at the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia, the government has a quota of imported salt consumption of 226,124 tons this year. People's salt production in some coastal areas of the archipelago dropped from the normal 166 thousand tons per month to only 6,200 tons per month. Due to the decline in production, the price of salt in some areas had soared. To overcome this, in August the government through PT Garam bring salt from Australia as much as 75 thousand tons.
The Fate of Bali Amed Salt in Precarious Situation: http://kabar.me/regional/read/2633842/nasib-garam-amed-bali-di-ujung-tanduk/24 October 2016
Amed salt was once the main source of livelihood of residents in the district of Karangasem, Bali, during thousands of years ago. His fate is now in precarious situation after the location of the salt mines, many converted into tourist accommodation facilities of the island.

Chairman of the Society Protection of Geographical Indications of Bali Amed Salt, I Nengah Suanda said the current production conditions Amed salt cause for serious concern. In the past, all local residents work as farmers of salt, now there are 20 farmers only. Amed salt circulation is quite nice, though not many and not so popular. In Jakarta, there are four suppliers who sell Amed salt, while in the provincial capital of Bali, Denpasar, only one supplier for marketing Amed salt. Amed salt production tool in the form of coconut manger is currently competing with building materials so prices tend to be expensive. In fact, the production of capital held a major constraint. Likewise with the land. Now the land has been developed into a tourist area.
