The Ministry of Industry is committed to increase competitiveness of national rattan industry from upstream to downstream, by providing technical assistance from and market access. Two of these efforts will be the road, so that producers and furniture makers we can bounce back and scale can be expanded. For example, regarding the design and innovation of cane will be directed to the current global trends.

Technical assistance includes implementation of educational and training programs and the provision of machinery and equipment. Meanwhile, increased market access can be through sale to countries of export destinations such as participation at the international level exhibition. Challenge players in this industry is the emergence of substitute products plastic imitation rattan who began taking the portion of natural rattan. This requires harmonization of the upstream and downstream industry players in the creation of high value-added products.

Indonesian furniture and handicraft products are not only favored domestically, but are also favored by other countries in the world. However, this labor-intensive industry is still faced with a number of obstacles such as the availability of raw materials and the support of sophisticated equipment.

Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Furniture and Crafts Industry Association (HIMKI), Abdul Sobur said that the work of local skilled hands in making furniture and handicraft products is highly favored by consumers from all over the world, such as the United States, Japan, England, Netherlands, Germany, France, Australia, Belgium, South Korea, Italy, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and others. They like it because it has a very prominent characteristic, namely there is a combination of environmentally friendly materials, cultural diversity, capable skills, and design innovation, which is relatively advanced. So as to create unique Indonesian products, innovative, quality and has international standards.
