The Ministry of Industry initiated business cooperation between the domestic jewelry industry and Swiss watch companies. This move is expected to further expand the market access of local products to the global region thus increasing the country's foreign exchange from export. This is one result of a bilateral meeting between the Minister of Industry Airlanga Hartarto and Swiss Minister of Economy, Education and Research Johann N. Schneider-Ammann.

Minister of Industry explained, domestic jewelry industry has been able to compete in the international market with design and products of superior quality. This can be seen from the export value of Indonesian jewelry products to the world in the period of 2011-2016, showing an increasing trend of 16.85 percent with export value in 2011 amounting to US $ 2.59 billion to US $ 5.34 billion in 2016.

Therefore, Airlangga said that it will soon facilitate the strengthening of economic cooperation between both parties, because it will have a positive impact for the development of small and medium industries (IKM) in the country. Because the jewelry industry is dominated by the IKM sector scattered in various centers of artisans in Indonesia.
