The government through the Ministry of Finance sets a policy on tobacco products excise rates (CHT) starting January 1, 2022 with an average increase of 12 percent. The CHT policy is one of the instruments to improve the quality of Human Resources (HR) which is a crucial agenda in efforts to increase national productivity.

"Today, the President has approved and after a coordination meeting under the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, the average excise tax increase for cigarettes is 12 percent. But for Hand-Rolled Kretek Cigarettes (SKT), the President asked for a 5 percent increase, so we set a maximum 4.5 percent," said the Minister of Finance online in the 2022 Tobacco Products Excise Policy Press Statement, Monday (13/12).

In his presentation, the Minister of Finance explained that the imposition of excise was intended as an effort to control consumption as mandated by the Excise Law. The excise policy also considers the impact on tobacco farmers, workers, and the tobacco products industry as a whole.

Jakarta Kretek community rejected ratification draft Regulation on Tobacco (Tobacco RPP) which has not been signed by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). With the ratification of RPP Tobacco, tobacco industry feared would destroy the country. The government should be more concerned with the national industry, with not endorse RPP Tobacco.

Nevertheless, the community responded positively Jakarta Kretek legal decisions issued by the District Court of Bogor, West Java, on the summons of the anti-tobacco activists institutions in the city of Bogor was the team Author "Criminalization Leads Monopoly, Tobacco Indonesia amid turbulence Anti-Smoking Campaign Regulations International" with an NGO No Tobacco Community (notc) at the end of 2011.
