Bapanas Food Availability Director, Budi Waryanto said, based on National Food Balance Prognosis data, soybean stocks at the end of December 2022 were only 58,000 tons with the remaining stock remaining for 7 days.
The plan is to import soybeans in November-December of 446,000 tons. This figure has taken into account domestic soybean production and soybean demand reaching 245,000 tons per month.
Imported Soybean Prices Soar, UMM Lecturer Gives Strategy to Tofu and Tempeh Producers: https://www.umm.ac.id/id/berita/harga-kedelai-impor-melonjak-dosen-umm-beri-strategi-untuk-produsen-tahu-tempe.html/27 November 2023 The year 2023 brings serious challenges for the tempeh and tofu industry in Indonesia with a spike in the price of imported soybeans reaching IDR. 13,200. As the main raw material, soybeans play a crucial role in making these two typical Indonesian foods. Uncertainty regarding the price of imported soybeans continues to creep up, creating a significant impact, especially on the production costs of tempeh and tofu.
In line with this, lecturer at the Agribusiness Study Program, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Dr. Ir. Anas Tain, M.M. explained that this problem is not a new issue in Indonesia; because, every year the price of imported soybeans increases. In an effort to cover rising production costs, a number of manufacturers often make changes to their products. Some steps that are generally taken are adjusting product selling prices, reducing production quantities, increasing prices, or even reducing product size. However, Anas emphasized that each of these actions must be in line with the characteristics of the buyer segment, without exception, understanding the concept of society's elasticity towards price increases.
