Rattan furniture and handicraft entrepreneurs have complained about the scarcity of rattan raw materials since the last 1 year. Scarcity is allegedly due to the excessive export of rattan raw materials illegally to neighboring Indonesia, such as Singapore.

Chairman of the Indonesian Furniture and Handicraft Industry Association (HIMKI) Soenoto said, from about 40 thousand-60 thousand tons of rattan raw materials in the country, currently only 30 percent available. While 70 percent is lost and is estimated to be exported illegally to other countries.
