Rice production during the dry season in Garut, West Java, was reduced due to abnormal supply of water to the rice fields since the early planting. Although the production of paddy rice grain yield little, but farmers claimed fortunate can still harvest season, compared to other areas of crop failures. Meanwhile, recorded in the Office of Food Crops and Horticulture, Garut, lowland rice drought reached 1653 hectares. Impact of drought led to the production of rice in the dry season 2012 dropped 6263 tons or material losses amounting to Rp.25 billion.

The price of rice in Indonesia is not the most expensive when compared with the state. Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Hari Priyono said that Indonesian farmers are now enjoying the margin, considering that rice production increased by 11 percent in 2016.

The average price of rice in consumers in January 2017 was Rp.10, 698 per kilogram, lower by -0.98 percent compared to January 2016. "Subsequently, February 2017 was lower by -1.76 percent, March -2.39 percent, April -1.37 percent and May lower by -0.09 percent compared to the same month in 2016, "Hari said in a written statement received by Republika.co.id on Thursday (13/7).

Hari said in 2017, the price of grain and rice price is above the government purchasing price (HPP) of Rp 3,700 per kilogram of dry unhulled rice and Rp.7, 300 per kilogram of rice. The average price of June 2017 rice is Rp.10, 597 per kilogram. From January to June 2017, rice prices are under control and farmers can still enjoy a margin of Rp.65.7 trillion per year.
