Additional 8,500 Units of Gas Stations Needed by 2008
Bisnis Indonesia, page T6 (27-December-2005)
PT Pertamina predicts that in the year 2008, the need for gas stations will be balanced out with the market’s demand for it reaching 8,500 units to distribute 45 million kiloliters of fuel to consumers. At the present, the amount of gas stations and the market’s need for it is still unbalanced. Pertamina currently owns only 3,157 units of gas stations whereas the need for it this year alone is around 5,000 units in order to distribute almost 40 million kiloliters of fuel. Meanwhile, for next year, the need for gas stations will reach 6,500 units (including 2005’s 5,000 units) to distribute around 41.5 million kiloliters of subsidised fuel to its consumers. The turnover of gas stations is projected to drop from 25 kiloliters per day this year to 20 kiloliters per day next year following the increase of gas station units. By 2007, the turnover of gas stations is predicted to be as much as 15 kiloliters per day, the same as the estimation for 2006. The assumed total investment of one unit of gas station is Rp.6.4 billion. Pertamina plans to increase the margin of gas station managers next year to Rp.10 per liter for premium following the new Public Service Obligation policy for the distribution of subsidised fuel and the decrease in turnover. After the price hike in fuel last October, Pertamina has given a margin as much as Rp.172 per liter for premium and Rp.215 for solar.
