PKT’s Main Director States Three Factories Will Close Down

The suggestion to swap the gas supply from Pupuk Kaltim I factory to the PIM factory might cause the production of urea to decrease by 20 percent. This will also cause three factories to close down. Despite that, the Main Director of PT Pupuk Kaltim (PKT), Omay K. Wiraatmadja, has handed over the decision to the government, as it is the shareholder. PKT owns five urea factories and four ammonia factories. Both factories have the capacity of 570,000 tons. At the preset, the Kaltim I factory is responsible for supplying around 250,000 tons of urea mild per year to a melamine factory joint owned by PKT and a Dutch factory. Therefore, if Kaltim 1 is terminated, then three factories will close down.
Pupuk Kaltim Co-operates with Samsung and Agrifert to Build Factories

Despite some uncertainties concerning gas supplies for the national fertilizer industry, PT Pupuk Kaltim is establishing a co-operation with Samsung Corporation and Agrifert Malaysia Sdn Bhd to build new ammonia, urea and NPK factories. Pupuk Kaltim’s co-operation with Samsung is done in the form of feasibility studies of the NPK factory construction project. To build an NPK factory, an approximate fund of US$5 million is needed. Meanwhile, to build both ammonia and urea factory, Pupuk Kaltim would need US$350 million. In addition, Pupuk Kaltim also works together with the Indonesian Organic Agriculture Society (Maporina) to promote, familiarize and develop organic fertilizers.
