Increased efficiency is important to encourage the quantity and quality of seafood products in Indonesia. Most local fishermen still use traditional techniques and equipment (inefficient). Apart from increasing the quantity, products with higher quality in this sector is also expected to increase demand from abroad will be of Indonesian fishery products (such as fish, shrimp and crab).

Based on the latest data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the fisheries sector in Indonesia has grown 8:37% on the basis of year-on-year (y / y) in the third quarter of 2015, far higher than the economic growth of the country as a whole (at 4, 73% y / y) in the same quarter. Indonesian fishery product exports amounted to 244.6 million US dollars (US) in October 2015, while imports only reached 12.5 million US dollars (implying a trade surplus of 232.04 million US dollars).

Indonesia will cooperate with the European Union on a new breakthrough called electronic Ceritificate that will be installed on the fish.

It was announced by the Deputy Ministry for Maritime Affairs Maritime Sovereignty and Resources Arif Havas Oegroseno after closing the High Level Dialogue on Fishieries and Maritime in Padma Resorts, Legian, Bali (Thursday, 12/10).
