Rubber Association of Indonesia (Gapkindo) has proposed to the government to include industrial rubber (crumb rubber) to a negative list of investment (DNI).

According to the Secretary Gapkindo Sumatra, Edy Irwansyah said, with the inclusion of the rubber industry in the DNI it will restrict foreign ownership in the sector. Therefore, the DNI is an umbrella law to limit foreign ownership in the various business sectors in Indonesia.

"Gapkindo ask it to protect farmers and local entrepreneurs. Moreover, now many rubber industry which suffered losses due to the low prices in the international market, "he said in Medan, on Friday (23/10).

Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman requested the process of permitting rubber processing investment accelerated so that the presence of this industry is able to absorb rubber farmers in Bengkulu Province. This is related to the plan of two investors who will build rubber processing industry in Bengkulu Province. Both investors have not been able to operate because the licensing process, especially from the Ministry of Agriculture has not been completed.

The Minister said the existence of investment of rubber latex processing can absorb rubber sap whose price is still low around Rp.5.000 per kilogram at farmer level. Bengkulu Governor Rohidin Mersyah said two investors interested in developing rubber processing industries in Bengkulu had submitted their work plans to the Bengkulu Provincial Government, which is planned to build a rubber-processing factory in North Bengkulu and Seluma Regencies. The presence of this investment is expected to absorb rubber latex Bengkulu farmers in recent years the price slumped.
