Walhi Forms Green Politic Block

The Indonesian Forum for Environment (Walhi) will form the green politic block that acts as an alternative political force. The environmental political block is based on massive and organized critical mass of people. The block’s formation was based on a resolution made by the forum in the Indonesian Forum for Environment’s National Environmental Consultation. The block was formed to balance government-regulated policies to conserve natural resources.

Walhi Finds 12 Illegal Sawmills in Aceh

The Indonesia Environmental Association (Walhi) of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam discovered 12 illegal sawmill companies that operated in flood-susceptible area of Semadam in southeast Aceh. It suspected that the presence of these companies was causing large floods that happened in the area. The 12 sawmills are located in Luk-luk River, Lawe Malum Village, Mbarung Village, Peranginan, Natam, Jongar, Kinga, Pulo Piku, Gulo, Lumban Tua, Jamur Damar and Pulo Sepang. In addition, some of these sawmills are managed by government and security officials of the region.
