Kompas, page 12, 2006-07-22
This year, Universitas Indonesia (UI) decided to eliminate the special (non-regular) entrance test. The special entrance test program was implemented between 2003 and 2004, when a number of state universities became state-owned corporations (BUMN). Students accepted through the special program were obliged to pay a certain amount of money to access the education provided by state universities. After implementing the program for the last three years, UI decided to eliminate the program. Instead, UI only accepts students from New Student Entrance Test (SPMB) and the Study Opportunity Program (PPKB). The program elimination was done to avoid double standard accusation in new student enrolment. Instead, the cover the fund shortage caused by the program’s elimination, UI has decided to raise its basic tuition fee that ranges from Rp 5 million to Rp 25 million.
