Bentoel May Not Share Dividends Bisnis Indonesia, page B2, 2006-05-11
PT Bentoel International Investama Tbk is estimated not to share dividend this year, even though the company booked a net profit of Rp.108.17 billion last year, up 33.64 percent from Rp.80.94 billion in 2004. On of the reasons is the large need for investments this year. The sales volume that was predicted to rise more than 10 percent this year compared to last year caused Bentoel to increase its investment fund in order to add to the supply of raw materials.
Last time, Bentoel shared dividends as much as Rp.2.5 per share based on 2004’s financial performance paid August 8 2005. The company has also requested additional credit from PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia Tbk as much as Rp.200 billion to anticipate the high need for investment funds this year. Meanwhile, the company’s internal fund is currently recorded at Rp.500 billion.
The retail price of cigarettes that rose 10 percent has effected the price of each pack of Bentoel to increase around Rp.300 to Rp.500. However, until now the average price of Bentoel cigarettes have only increased by around 5 percent, or Rp.100 to Rp.200 per pack.
