Budi Acid’s Capital Expenditure Rises Bisnis Indonesia, page B1, 2005-12-20
PT Budi Acid Jaya Tbk has doubled its capital expenditure usage to US$4.5 milllion in 2005. The increase was affected by a number of factors, one of which was the increasing price of fuel. Initially, the company targeted its capital expenditure to range from US$2 million to US$ 3 million. However, due to replacements done to its coal-powered boilers in its factories, the company increased its capital expenditure. Previously, the boilers was powered by solar fuel, but since the solar price hike, the company switched to coal. The solar price hike affected the company’s margin. As an effect, the company spent Rp.46 billion for capital expenditure and to switch from solar boilers to coal boilers. By shifting to coal, the company would be able to save 30 percent of factory power. Currently, the company has 12 tapioca flour factories, 3 citric acid factories and 2 plastic sack factories. Nine of these factories (the 3 citric acid factories and 6 tapioca flour factories) have shifted to coal-powered boilers. The company projects to finish the shifting process by 2006. In 2006, the company projects to have a capital expenditure of US$5 million.
