The market growth of domestic and international express delivery services are portraying a positive prospect. Local postal services, such as PT Pos Indonesia, seems like a lion in its own cage.
For 2003, TNT International Express invested US$4 million, including US$1 million for depo development with all its facilities. This depo is located in Taman Niaga Soewarna, near the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, and is 2,000 cubic meters wide. TNT has been operating in Indonesia since 1979. It now flies 43 planes and it covers 200 countries. It hires around 100,000 employees, has 969 depos, and 17,000 transportation armadas. In Indonesia, the market for express delivery adds up to US$90 million. TNT hopes to maintain its market of 20 percent.
DHL conquers more than 50 percent of the international express delivery market through the air for Indonesia. It has a logistic service center named Express Logistic Centers (ELC) located in Bahrain, Brisbane, Brussels, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, Miami, and Singapore. It has also built strategic parts centers in potential growing countries such as Indonesia. One of their main services is called Fast Forward which is a service that handles exporting and importing items or logistics weighing 20 kilograms or more.
