RRI Ready To Compete With Information and Entertainment Industry

Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) is ready to compete with the information and entertainment industry. The Public Announcer Organization of RRI (LPP RRI) will lauch soon information in the form of not only audio, but also audio visual and written. As a sixty year old organization, RRI has local assets with 58 stations and a global partnership network, plus priceless assets in the form of human resources. However, the human resources of LPP RRI, which add up to 7,500 people, have of be put in optimal use. This is a challenge because most of them are above 40 years old, have only a high school degree, and are civil servants.

To expand its transmission area in Indonesia, RRI (Radio Republik Indonesia) has added the
Number of its transmitter to 404 units. For the period of 2001 to 2004, RRI has added 99 units of transmitters with 576 kilowatts of power to its collection. RRI also built 43 units of transmitters that are partly financed using the state budget and loans from Germany. These 43 10-kilowatts units include 22 MW transmitters, 10 SW transmitters and one FM transmitter. As Germany has also given soft loans to Indonesia, RRI will add another 130 transmitters in various spots. Three units of transmitters will be placed in Manumbing Peak, Muntai Peak and Mangkol Peak in Bangka Belitung Island Province.
