Coal mining company PT Arutmin Indonesia is temporarily halting its activities in Batulicin in Tanah Bumbu Regency, South Kalimantan as the region’s Environment and Forestry Agency ordered the company to halt mining activities and re-register its permit.

PT Arutmin Indonesia has allocated funds for the community development for 2006 as much as US$ 2 million (around Rp.18 billion). This year, the funds allocated are larger to avoid demonstrations by society and so the society can be independent by the next 5 - 7 years, when the company leaves it. The fund given out is actually meant to be allocated, not donated as perceived by most of the society.
