PAL Paints Positive Business Outlook
The Jakarta Post, page 14, 2005-10-08
PT PAL Indonesia is optimistic that its revenue will increase this year despite the threat of an economic slowdown as a result of increasing fuel prices and interest rates. The Surabaya-based shipbuilder company was still receiving strong demand for its services, especially from foreign customers. The company targets Rp 1 trillion in sales revenue in 2005, which would be a 20% increase from 2004’s sales. Among PAL’s major orders this year were two 50,000 deadweight tons (DWT) bulk carriers, worth some US$ 25 million each, ordered by German buyers. The company targets to complete an order for an 18,000 DWT tanker, priced at US$ 20 million, placed by Italian buyer. PAL Indonesia has also received orders to build patrol boats for the finance ministry’s Customs and Excise Office, and other orders for smaller ships from Turkish buyers.s
