Government Asked to Probe Newmont’s Camp
The Jakarta Post, page 14, 2006-03-24
PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara has asked the government to investigate the burning down attack on the company’s Elang exploration camp. The Indonesian unit of U.S. mining company Newmont Mining Corp. stopped exploration activities at Elang after the attack. Some speculate that the attack was due to some part of the community’s resentment towards U.S. mining firms.
